20,000 Streams, No Label: What “Antisocial Stepper” Taught Me
I’m Zische, an independent rapper from Nairobi, Kenya. In 2024 I dropped my debut album, “Antisocial Stepper.” It’s now past 20,000 verified streams — every single one earned with no label, no playlist plug, no machine. Just the music and the people who found it.
Here’s what those numbers actually taught me.
One: nobody is coming to save you. I waited a long time for some industry door to open. It didn’t. The day I stopped waiting and started building was the day things actually moved.
Two: small and real beats big and fake. I could’ve chased empty numbers. Instead I focused on the people who genuinely connected — 300+ of them, across more than five countries. That core is worth more than any vanity metric, because they show up every single time.
Three: a catalog is an asset. “Antisocial Stepper” still works for me today. People still find it. That’s the power of building things that last instead of chasing one moment.
Four: the journey is the content. People don’t just want the polished final song. They want to see it get made — the grind, the wins, the honest version. That realization changed how I do everything.
“Antisocial Stepper” was step one. “Home Turf” is the next. And the plan from here is simple: keep building, keep it honest, keep the people who got here early as close as possible.
