I’m Building My Rap Career Like a Software Project | Zische
I’m Zische, an independent rapper from Nairobi, Kenya. I’m also a software engineer — I build banking systems and payment integrations for a living. Most people think those two things have nothing to do with each other. I think they’re the same thing.
When you build software, you don’t just write code and hope. You design a system. You break a huge goal into small pieces. You ship something small, see what works, fix what doesn’t, and ship again. You build things that keep running after you walk away from the keyboard.
That’s exactly how I’m building this music.
Most artists chase one viral moment and burn out waiting for a label to save them. I’d rather build infrastructure. A catalog that earns while I sleep. A community that grows whether or not the algorithm likes me this week. Systems instead of luck.
So I run my music in phases, like sprints. One release at a time, done properly, instead of ten things done halfway. I track what actually moves the needle. I treat my fans like the core team, not an audience — because the people reading this are the reason any of it works.
It’s slower. It’s less flashy. But it’s mine, and it compounds. Every song, every supporter, every email on the list is one more block in something that’s meant to last.
That’s the whole plan. Build it like an engineer. Mean it like an artist.
